A leased line is a dedicated, fixed-bandwidth, symmetric data connection for your Internet traffic.
This means they can upload data at the same fast speed at which they can download. They can also come at faster speeds such as 100MB to 1GB.
A leased line is useful to achieve the following:
Leased lines are a dedicated connection to the Internet. This means that the bandwidth you need has been reserved solely for your use on your connection. Unlike FTTC, ADSL and SOGEA Internet connections, the bandwidth available does not fall at peak times, when other customers of the same ISP try to use their connections at the same time as you.
Leased line connections need a physical cable connecting your business premise to the carriers network.
The quickest a leased line can be installed is one month, usually in a location where there are already existing connections and conduits, such as a newly build business park.
On placing your order, you will be allocated a site inspection visit to see what issues might arise from installing the connection. Additional fees may then be placed on the connection, however at this point the order can be cancelled.
Sometimes wayleave might be required. This is where access for the cable is required through someone else’s land or a landlord owned building. In these situation, if an application goes to wayleave, it can take a very long time, as legal proceedings might need to take place.
All leased lines come with a Service Level Agreement. This means your leased line is monitored 24/7 and any issues reported directly to the carrier. Fixed response times are provided to ensure any connection issues are resolved rapidly.
Leased lines are priced depending on the contract length. So you can choose the contract length and the price reflects that. Most businesses choose a three year contract length, as this is usually the best value for the length of commitment.
All our Leased Lines come with a fixed IP address. However there may be reasons you need a few more, such as for a complex security configuration. IP allocation must be actioned in regard to RIPE rules, so there needs to be a valid reason.
Leased Lines run over a specified bearer speed. This is the actual limitation of the physical line, not the speed that you are provided. So, if you have a 100MB bearer, you can never have a 800MB speed put on it in the future, you would need another line installing. If you have a 1000MB bearer and have 100MB line, you can always upgrade later to a 500MB line without any change in the installation.
Leased Lines are more expensive than FTTP Broadband and FTTC Broadband, however they offer a symmetrical connection and an SLA. The symmetrical connection means that you get the same speed upload as download. E.g. 1000MB up and down, where as FTTC would be 80MB down and 20MB up. The SLA (Service Level Agreement) ensures that their is compensation if the service fails and specified response times should any downtime occur. This ensures that the connection is much more reliable.
