Experiencing call dropping on VoIP Phone System - Issue
Calls dropping on a VoIP call is not uncommon, as VoIP phone services run using your internet connection.
Your internet connection can cause something called packet loss, which is where it drops information as it transports it over the internet.
Packet loss can appear when using VoIP, because it is more sensitive to loss of information, while your normal internet use, while still experiencing packet loss, will appear normal.
To resolve packet loss on your network, you need to find out why the internet connection is unstable, consider the following:
- Interference: If you are using a wireless connection to the internet, it can be prone to interference. Items such as microwaves near the wi-fi connection can cause interference. Read our Wi-Fi VoIP Guide
- Poor Signal: If you are using a 4G or 5G connection to the internet, then the connection may not be stable enough to make a VoIP call over. Try getting a better signal strength.
- Poor Quality Connection: If you are experiencing packet loss with a wired connection, you might have an issue with the stability of your connection and you should contact your provider to run a line test
