The newly approved Employment Rights Bill will go ahead on the 6th April 2024, which will allow employees to have more control over their work schedule and environment.
Workers will soon have the right to request flexible working from day one, which will have a major impact on how UK organisations operate.
Before the pandemic, just 12% of adults worked from home in a typical week and the figure has since risen to as high as 40%, and is only predicted to further increase.
VoIP has many advantages to facilitate the transition to flexible working, including facilitating seamless multi-site location communication and effortlessly linking up work devices.
Juliet Moran, founder of TelephoneSystems.Cloud said: “Under the new flexi-working legislation, businesses need to implement communication solutions to better support the needs of flexible working patterns.
“The changes mean more employees will be able to work from home and have more control over their schedules to balance their professional and personal lives.
“With businesses now having to embrace hybrid and remote working, VoIP is key to ensuring processes run smoothly from anywhere.
“One huge advantage is that it allows workers to use the same physical device with the same number for business-related calls wherever they are working from.
“VoIP systems are also relatively cheap to set up and run, meaning little investment is required from businesses.”
VoIP systems incur relatively low set-up costs, with businesses benefiting from lower call charges, especially when compared to mobile phones. Businesses operating internationally will also benefit from lower international call charges and no expensive contract premiums.
VoIP technology allows location-independent work because employees can communicate from anywhere worldwide, as long as there is an internet location. This ensures employees stay connected and engaged regardless of geographical location.
The system allows employees to use the same phone number on their other devices which can be connected to smartphones, laptops, tablets and desktop computers; wherever they are. This maintains a consistent contact point, promoting streamlined, quick and reliable communication.
VoIP facilitates unified communications by integrating diverse communication channels such as instant messaging, voice calls, and video conferencing which offers a centralised platform. It also enables employees to utilise a variety of devices, including tablets, laptops, and smartphones, along with collaborative tools like file sharing and meeting rooms, to promote a seamless flexi-working environment.
The collaborative features of VoIP make communication promote increased productivity in colleagues. The accessibility of the system from any device will ensure remote employees are engaged and connected without sacrificing communication quality.
