Reduce spam sign-ups for your business

Businesses are being told easy hacks to reduce bot and spam sign-ups for marketing activities.

Online cloud experts from TelephoneSystems.Cloud are urging business owners to verify their email list and take steps to discourage spam sign ups to email marketing campaigns.

When false information is entered into a business's sign-up form, the data can affect analytics and performance.

Analytics will send false information to email marketing campaigns, leading to bad optimization and false leads.

Sending out email marketing materials to spambots can also cause marketing campaigns to appear ineffective and poorly received by customers.

Digital tech expert Juliet Moran of TelephoneSystems.Cloud said, “Spam sign-ups are a real issue for many business owners.

“Although having multiple additional email sign-ups may not appear to be a huge issue at first, it can seriously impact the success of your email marketing campaigns.

“You may begin to notice a high bounce rate and low response to marketing activities. The information included can also skew your customer insights completely.

“The best thing every business can do is check for signs of spam sign-ups, verify their email list and put boundaries in place to reduce the risk of future spambot attacks.”

Here is TelephoneSystems.Cloud’s advice:

Double opt-in

Using a double opt-in requires users to click a link in an email to confirm their subscription, which can minimize bots and spam sign-ups.

Check for signs of spam sign ups

Signs of false sign-ups include high bounce rates or low open rates, lots of sign-ups with duplicate information, sign-ups with disposable email addresses, and a high volume of sign-ups in a very short period of time.

Use two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication is a great way to secure your business from spam sign-ups. It requires users to provide two forms of identification, for example, a password and an SMS code, when logging in or signing up to a website.

Verify your email list

Verifying the validity and accuracy of email addresses on your sign-up list aims to remove any invalid or non-existent email addresses. You can use email verification tools to make the process faster.

Software updates

Staying on top of software updates minimizes the opportunity for spam sign-ups and bots to get their email addresses into your system. Software updates are regularly released by developers to fix any vulnerabilities and to enhance security.
